In July and August it can get hot, but thanks to the sea breeze it remains pleasant. The best time to visit? Explore the five villages: the highlights of Cinque Terre<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2943\" data-end=\"3085\">When people ask me what the highlights of Cinque Terre are, I automatically start smiling. Hiking the Sentiero Azzurro<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3629\" data-end=\"3899\">This world-famous coastal path connects the five villages. My favorite section is without a doubt the route between Monterosso and Vernazza. It&#8217;s a challenging hike \u2013 narrow stairs, steep climbs and sometimes quite a lot of sun \u2013 but every step is rewarded with views that are almost too beautiful to be true. You see Vernazza slowly come into view: the little harbor, the pastel-colored houses, the tower rising above everything\u2026 truly one of those moments when you just stand still. I always enjoy pausing here and imagining how it was used centuries ago to irrigate the farmlands.<\/p>\n<p>The cathedral of Cinque Terre \u2013 officially part of Monterosso \u2013 is a beautiful example of Ligurian architecture, with black and white marble and a serene atmosphere inside.<\/p>\n<h2>6. Wine, pesto &amp; local delicacies<\/h2>\n<p>Cinque Terre is the birthplace of <em>trofie al pesto<\/em> and the local dessert wine <em>Sciacchetr\u00e0<\/em>. I say: try them both! In Manarola there are a few small wine bars where you can taste with views over the vineyards.<\/p>\n<h2>7. Extra tip: combine your visit with Florence<\/h2>\n<p>Are you in the area and want to soak up even more Italian culture? Florence is surprisingly close.
