Historical sights in Nijmegen<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Valkhof & Valkhof Museum<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Valkhof is truly a place you must visit when discovering Nijmegen. A Roman castellum once stood here, and later a castle of Charlemagne. Now you’ll find the Valkhof Museum, where you can view archaeological finds from Roman times and the Middle Ages. The museum is located in Valkhof Park, a beautiful city park with an impressive view over the Waal River.
\nTip: walk past the old Barbarossa ruins and discover how this site has played a central role in the city’s history throughout the centuries.<\/p>\n

Stevenskerk & tower climb<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Stevenskerk is the oldest and largest church in Nijmegen. Built in the 13th century, it’s an impressive Gothic structure with beautiful stained glass windows and an imposing chandelier.<\/p>\n

My tip: for a panoramic view over the city, you really must climb the Stevenskerk tower. On clear days you can even see Germany! Inside the church, concerts and exhibitions are regularly organized, making the Stevenskerk not only a historical but also a cultural highlight.<\/p>\n

Hunnerpark & the old city walls<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Hunnerpark is located on the edge of the city center and is a peaceful place to relax. Here you can still see remnants of the old city walls, dating back to the Middle Ages. It’s a lovely spot for a walk and in summer absolutely my favorite place to picnic! Hunnerpark borders the Belv\u00e9d\u00e8re, a historic watchtower that you can still climb for a unique view of the city and the river.<\/p>\n

Things to do in Nijmegen: fun activities & outings<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Live music and festivals along the Waal<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Waalkade is a lively spot where events take place throughout the year, such as the Valkhof Festival in summer. Here you can enjoy alternative music. Additionally, De Goffert is a popular location for major concerts by international artists. During the summer months, open-air performances and cozy summer festivals also take place along the Waal, truly a wonderful atmosphere!<\/p>\n

Walking tour with digital guide<\/h2>\n

During my visit to Nijmegen I wanted to really get to know the city, but at my own pace. That’s why I chose the digital walking tour in Nijmegen<\/a>, and it turned out to be a great choice! With my phone in hand and headphones on, I followed the route past the most beautiful spots in the city, such as the impressive Stevenskerk and the historic Valkhof. Along the way, the digital guide shared fascinating stories and facts, which really brought the city to life. The nice thing was that I could decide for myself where to linger longer or pause for a coffee. Just wonderfully relaxed wandering through Nijmegen. An ideal way to discover the city!<\/p>\n

Want to catch an evening of culture? Then there are plenty of options in Nijmegen. De Lindenberg offers a diverse program with theater performances, cabaret and art exhibitions. For larger performances you can visit the Stadsschouwburg Nijmegen. Here you can enjoy theater, dance and classical music, often in a beautiful historic setting.<\/p>\n

Fun activities in Nijmegen with children<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Boat trip with unlimited Dutch pancakes<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A pancake boat and a river cruise through Nijmegen<\/a> in one? That sounded like the perfect combination, so I had to try this during my visit to Nijmegen! While the boat sailed peacefully over the Waal, I enjoyed the beautiful view of the city skyline and the green riverbanks. But the highlight? The unlimited Dutch pancakes! With different toppings I could customize my pancakes exactly to my liking. The atmosphere on board was relaxed and cozy, ideal to unwind while admiring Nijmegen from the water. Valkhofpark playground and <\/strong>Kinderboerderij De Goffert<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the historic Valkhofpark, there’s a playground where children can safely climb and play. The medieval decorations and the view of the Waal make it extra special. In Goffertpark you’ll find Kinderboerderij De Goffert, a popular spot for families. Children can see animals like sheep, goats and rabbits up close and learn more about farm life.<\/p>\n
