The Martinitoren<\/h3>\n

\"MartinitorenFor over 500 years, the Martinitoren has proudly stood above the city. At 97 meters, it is not only figuratively but also literally one of the highlights in our list of Groningen attractions. D\u2019Olle Grieze<\/em>, as the locals affectionately call this tower, is the fourth tallest tower in the Netherlands. It owes this nickname to the color of the weathered Bentheimer sandstone. If you’re in good shape, climb the 311 steps and discover the city from great heights. The view is truly breathtaking.<\/p>\n

The Martinikerk<\/h3>\n

The Martinitoren, as is customary with medieval towers, belongs to a church. The Martinikerk itself is a beautiful building, but together with the tower, it’s a complete picture. The best view of this church is from the Martinikerkhof. Nowadays, it’s simply a park where you can enjoy some peace right in the heart of the city. The Martinikerk is the oldest church in Groningen, and inside you’ll find various beautiful murals. The Grote Markt<\/h3>\n

\"DrieThe Martinitoren stands at the corner of the Grote Markt. This square is the beating heart of the city. Here, stadjers<\/em>, the residents of Groningen, and students come together to enjoy the vibrant life of Groningen. Besides the old gray tower, you’ll also find the city hall here, a beautiful building with lovely columns. On the south side of the square, you’ll find the Drie Gezusters. These old warehouses have stood proudly on the square for centuries and now serve as a popular nightlife center. If the sun is shining, a drink on the terrace of the Drie Gezusters is highly recommended.<\/p>\n

Vismarkt with the Korenbeurs<\/h3>\n

Close to the Grote Markt, Groningen has another beautiful square, the Vismarkt. This elongated square is flanked by old medieval houses and buildings on both sides. At the end of the market, where a market is still held twice a week, stands the Korenbeurs. This stately building used to be a place where grain was sold, but nowadays you can buy other things there. It has been transformed into a supermarket, possibly the most beautiful supermarket in the Netherlands. The picture is completed by the A-kerk in the background. \"KorenbeursA-Kerk<\/h3>\n

From the Vismarkt, you can already see this beautiful church well, but it’s really worth visiting the church itself. The A-kerk, or actually Der Aa-kerk<\/em>, has been part of the Groningen skyline for over 500 years. The tower, at 76 meters, is not as tall as the Martinitoren, but it is an impressive tower with beautiful shapes and colors.<\/p>\n

The Groninger Museum<\/h3>\n

One of the most colorful places in the city is the Groninger Museum. \"GroningerIt is housed in a striking building that is a work of art in itself. Designed by Italian designer Alessandro Mendini, this piece of modern architecture stands out as soon as you enter the city from the Central Station. Inside, you’ll find a large art collection ranging from exhibitions of historical painters to modern art. By organizing innovative exhibitions of international allure, the museum offers an experience for everyone.<\/p>\n

Prinsentuin<\/h3>\n

\"\"The Prinsentuin has existed since 1594 and was once a residence for the princes of Nassau. Today, it is open to the public and is the ideal place to relax in the city. It is a Renaissance garden, which is evident in its design. Stroll through the cozy courtyards and let your mind wander. In the summer, you can enjoy a cup of tea at the Tea House.<\/p>\n

Noorderplantsoen<\/h3>\n

Groningen’s park just outside the center is the Noorderplantsoen. It’s a fairly narrow park, but in length, it is quite impressive. The park is bordered by the Oranjewijk and the Hortusbuurt and is located where a defensive wall once stood. This is also evident on the map, as you can immediately recognize the shape of a defensive wall. Today, it is a green oasis with charming ponds.<\/p>\n

Reitdiep<\/h3>\n
