Program 7 day cycling vacation Stockholm and the archipelago

Day 1: Arrival in Stockholm

Today is all about exploring the city. Take your first walk through the capital of Sweden and admire the many sights. You will get a good impression of the beautiful city. The perfect base for the rest of your vacation.

Day 2: From Stockholm to Vaxholm (approx. 30 km)

The bike tour begins on Stockholm’s green island, Djurgården. You bike along the coast to Djursholm, a popular neighborhood with beautiful houses. Then you take the ferry and sail to the Bogesund nature reserve in about 30 minutes. During the crossing, your view of the Stockholm skyline slowly changes to small islands with rocky, rugged coast and lots of greenery. Upon arrival, continue past the fairy-tale castle of Bogesund to Vaxholm, the capital of the archipelago. A visit by ferry to the 16th century Vaxholm Castle is well worth the trip.

Day 3: From Vaxholm to Värmdö (approx. 40 km)

In the morning you take the ferry to the island of Rindö, where the yellow-colored officers’ buildings have been transformed into luxury apartments. After a short exploration of this island, you will sail on to Värmdö, an island in the middle of the archipelago. You will find a stony church from the 14th century with a beautiful altar and paintings. A visit to the stone church from the 14th century, with beautiful altar and paintings by the famous painter Bernt Notke, is well worthwhile.

Day 4: Värmdö – Sandhamn – Värmdö (approx. 25 km)

Also today you start the trip by ferry. The boat will take you to the popular island of Sandhamn in about 2 hours. It is a true summer paradise with small streets, nice resting places and light-colored summer villas. There is plenty of time to explore the island and enjoy the beach life. At the end of the day you will return to Värmdö by ferry.

Day 5: From Värmdö to Saltsjöbaden (approx. 55 km)

Along the way you have the opportunity to visit the modern art museum Artipelag, beautifully situated among the pine trees by the water. Cycling over the Skurusund bridge you will eventually reach the idyllic town of Saltsjöbaden.

Day 6: From Saltsjöbaden to Stockholm (approx. 35 km)

Through a nature reserve on beautiful coastal paths you cycle to Erstavik. You reach the world heritage site Skogskyrkogårde (forest cemetery), which UNESCO says is an impressive example of the fusion of architecture and cultural landscape. After a few kilometers you are back in Stockholm. Via the islands of Södermalm and Långholmen you will reach the hotel.

Day 7: Departure or extension

After breakfast the cycling vacation ends. There is a possibility to extend your stay in Stockholm.

Particulars:

• The rental bike does not include bicycle insurance. You can take out a separate bicycle insurance policy with Eigen-Wijze Reizen at € 1.77 per day. Your travel insurance often does not include bicycle insurance against damage and/or theft.
