Beautiful bicycle tour of the Hanseatic city

The bike tour, depending on weather conditions and group, heads towards the characteristic museum harbor full of historic ships. The guide tells about Zutphen’s role as a trading city and past activity on the water.

We are going to get a breath of fresh air on the IJsseldijk. A wonderful cycling route with wide views of the river, the IJssel river and the skyline of Zutphen. Ideal for beautiful photos.

The Noorderhaven district offers a fascinating contrast between modern urban development and industrial past. The guide tells how this neighborhood transformed into a lively residential area with striking historical buildings such as Het Koelhuis.
During opening hours we take you inside the impressive Walburgiskerk. This also houses the famous Librije: a rare chain library with books by Copernicus, among others. We won’t visit the Librije during the tour, but you can see this
unique piece of history for yourself later.

We cycle past the Stedelijk Museum and Museum Henriette Polak, both housed in stately monumental buildings. The Shell Dome is an elegant little structure in the garden and now serves as the entrance to the Museums. A real hidden gem.
The Broederenkerk, a former monastery church, is a beautiful library. Again; if the church is open, we’ll take a look inside. Zutphen is also known for its surprising amount of Jugendstil. You will discover the most beautiful facades and hear the stories behind them. We pass by the historic center, we tell you about the Zaadmarkt & Houtmarkt, but we also don’t forget the medieval squares, narrow streets, charming merchant houses and the Berkel ruins. Here you will discover the real Zutphen feeling.

The hofjes of Zutphen are quiet, green spots tucked away in the middle of the city.
Discover why these hofjes were so important to the community.
We cycle past the robust fortifications and the defense tower that was part of the old city wall. A fascinating stop for lovers of (military) history.
If the route allows it, we cycle past Zutphen’s over 200-year-old coffee roastery – a wonderful place to go after the tour to have a cup of coffee.

Very satisfied with this tour, as everything was well organized. The bike shop where we were originally supposed to start was on vacation, but *** arranged an alternative pick-up point. She contacted me personally by phone about this and also explained the best way to get there. The bike tour itself was also a very enjoyable tour with lots of explanations and a very friendly guide.
