This International Award-winning socially responsible Cape Town Township Tour provides you with the opportunity to meet and interact with the local community in the townships. A qualified guide will lead you around the township, visiting interesting places and explaining Xhosa customs. Some highlights of the tour are a visit to a local pre-school, traditional dancing by the Sangoma (traditional healer) and you will enjoy a lunch in an African home and taste some authentic African food as well. This is the perfect excursion if you want to see another side of South Africa other than just the most-visited spots.

Unique Township Tour with a certified guide in Cape Town

Highlights of the Cape Town Township Tour

  • Sangoma (traditional healer) dancing and drumming
  • Visit to Masivelani crèche (only available during the week)
  • Visit crafters and local artists in the community
  • Visit to the learning center / library
  • Lunch at Nonni’s home or Nongoloza’s Restaurant

*Please note: not all the highlights are available on Sundays and the tour is more focused on the African Gospel Experience.

After a 45-minute drive, you will start the bike tour. During the tour you will visit a preschool. Please do not bring treats for the children, as we already make donations to the creche on your behalf (10% of all tour proceeds go directly to Masicorp a non profit organisation). After that you will see traditional dancing and drumming by the Sangoma and we will also enjoy an authentic African lunch. This guided bicycle tour gives you the unique opportunity to see the townships in a different way and there will be enough time to interact with the locals. Experience the life of the local people and seize this opportunity to help them through sustainable tourism initiatives.

We would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in a little piece of history of a township next to Cape Town. Our guides were very enthusiastic and learned us a lot about the slums! 100% satisfied!

Our guide *** was very friendly and had a great inside knowledge about the township.

Fantastic experience with a great guide. Definitely highly recommended.

Review Person

Although reluctant at first we were very happy that we did the tour. Our guide was very enthusiastic and told us everything about the community and how people live and work together. In this way we could contribute to the development and projects within the community. And have fun at the same time.
