Have you already visited the Hungarian capital or want to learn more about its history and culture? Then you should do our Budapest Retro Bike Tour! Not only will you explore the city off the beaten track but you will also learn about the Hungarian history and culture in an exciting way.

This unique bike tour brings you immediately back to the 70s, when the communist government constructed a socialist-modeled city. You will cycle along prefabricated housing areas (on bike paths, of course) to discover retro monuments and public buildings from this time, learning all the while what life in the capital of Hungary is like.

Highlights of Budapest Retro Bike Tour

  • Basilica
  • Liberty square
  • Parliament
  • Margaret bridge
  • Margaret island
  • Arpad Bridge
  • Óbuda main square
  • Graphisoft park
  • Roman banks
  • Aquincum, Roman ruins
  • And much more!

This guided bike tour is different, because you will leave the city center and touristic area. Instead, you will ride out into the suburbs, past the old prefabricated socialist-style buildings and industrial facilities.

During this highly recommended Budapest Retro Bike Tour you will explore beautiful sites as you go along and over the Danube River until reaching the green recreational area “Romai Part” (Roman Beach), where the ancient Romans used to relax and BBQ. Today, this is a spot where locals love to hang out and sunbathe by the Danube.

During this tour you will join the locals, enjoying a drink and trying authentic Hungarian dishes like the “Kolbasz” (a Hungarian giant sausage). You will also visit the ancient ruins of Aquincum, where you will feel like you stepped into a whole other world and time.

Afterwards, you will cross a beautiful baroque square, the main square of Obuda (which means Old Buda in Hungarian), before cycling back to the meeting point. Of course, there will be enough time for pictures during the tour and you can ask your guide questions at any time.

Great guide, great, interesting tour. However, the quality of the bikes leaves much to be desired.

We went on the Retro Tour. We visited a part of the city that was new to us. Our guide Sam speaks verry good Hungarian ( his mother language), English and German. He has a big Hart for the city and so much knowledge and always friendly and open minded. It was an interesting and relaxing tour. Safe and so different then the highlights. We would recommend it.

A tour outside the highlights and a little further from the center, allowing you to get to know Budapest a little better, including a number of Roman excavations, Margaret Island, etc.

It was the best tour I've ever had! Many thanks, Samuel! He was very engaging, had diverse interests, and was incredibly knowledgeable. He was also personal, witty, and had just the right touch of irony! Of course, I was incredibly lucky to be in such a small group and was able to ask all my questions! We visited many little places off the beaten track that capture the life and poetry of the city! It was so much fun – Budapest will leave a lasting impression… I'll be back!

The tour ultimately lasted five hours. So, we saw and heard a lot. In Hungary, you can't avoid a political discussion during the tour.

A wonderful guide who loves to tell stories and teach you about this beautiful city, but the tour could have been a bit faster. We left at 2:10 a.m. and returned the bikes at 6:35 p.m. But it was very pleasant!
